good stuff(!)

i've read a handful of [great] walking books, & this is up there for sure

getting past a few parts that i guess are supposed to make me/us feel shame, or browbeaten, when talking about slavery & worse* [more tedious] reading from the Aurora Shooter™'s so-called "manifesto" [i think that was a fake/manufactured event; so his manifesto, like the T. Kaczynski one, are likely written by a committee in some agency office... anywho, the point was, er, the meaning or plight of life & finding meaning...]

so, the actual meat of this book: Andrew walks across the US in his early twenties, collecting/recording/retelling stories from people he meets... that's the good part

we get a pretty real character here, & his journey is quite good

like many of these books, the risk of trusting is often met w/ kind & courteous, generous, trusting folks who take him in & supply him; making lasting friendships

i liked the portions through many of the states/territories, & of course loved the Navajo portion & the Death Valley jaunt

he makes amends w/ his family & learns about hisself in the process 👍👍
